Japan Airlines Embarks on a Historic Journey to Doha

Japan Airlines recently commenced its daily flights from Tokyo to Doha, marking the beginning of the first-ever nonstop service from Japan to this dynamic region. Launched just yesterday, this new route operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, not only strengthens ties with oneworld partner Qatar Airways but also opens new doors for travelers exploring business and leisure opportunities across continents.

The inauguration of the Tokyo-Doha route was announced with much anticipation last July, and the launch was celebrated with the departure of a Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 from Haneda International Airport in Tokyo. Despite a slightly delayed departure, the aircraft made its historic journey, signifying Japan Airlines’ commitment to expanding its global network and offering passengers more direct routes to their destinations.

This new service operates daily through October 26, covering the International Air Transport Association (IATA) summer travel period, promising a seamless experience for travelers heading to the Middle East directly from Japan for the first time. The launch was met with enthusiasm, as the inaugural flight to Doha’s Hamad International Airport, the hub of Qatar Airways, was nearly full, showcasing the high demand and positive reception from passengers.

The route’s launch not only represents a milestone for Japan Airlines but also signifies the deepening partnership with Qatar Airways, enabling seamless connections for customers traveling from Europe, Africa, South America, and the Middle East to Asia.

Ross Leggett, Japan Airlines’ Managing Executive Officer for Route Marketing, expressed excitement about catering to the growing demand for business and leisure travel from Doha to Asia with JAL’s five-star service. Meanwhile, Sujata Suri, Senior Vice President of Finance and Procurement at Hamad International Airport, noted that this new route, along with Qatar Airways’ recent resumption of service to Osaka, has increased weekly services from Doha to Japan by 50%.

The Tokyo-Doha flights are serviced by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, featuring the JAL SKY SUITE 787 configuration with 52 business class seats and 151 economy class seats, providing passengers with an unparalleled travel experience.

Japan Airlines’ venture into the Middle East with its Doha route is just the beginning of its ambitious expansion plans. With a fleet that includes 22 Boeing 787-9s and the recent addition of Airbus A350-900s and A350-1000s, Japan Airlines is set to further diversify its operations and enhance its global footprint.
