Take Note of AirAsia Philippines’ Cabin Baggage Policy

AirAsia Philippines will start enforcing its cabin baggage policy more strictly beginning August 15, 2024. This move aims to enhance the travel experience for passengers by promoting safe and efficient boarding procedures.

Under the revised policy, each passenger is allowed to bring a combined total of 7 kilograms of cabin baggage. This includes one piece of cabin baggage and one small personal item. The cabin baggage, whether it be a trolley bag or backpack, must not exceed dimensions of 56 cm in height, 36 cm in width, and 23 cm in diameter. It should be stowed in the overhead storage compartment. Additionally, passengers can carry one small personal item, such as a handbag or laptop bag, with dimensions not exceeding 40 cm in height, 30 cm in width, and 10 cm in diameter, which must fit under the seat in front of them.

Policy Aims to Ensure On-Time Departures

Steve Dailisan, AirAsia’s Communications and Public Affairs Head & First Officer, emphasized the importance of this policy in ensuring that flights depart on time. “Our cabin baggage policy is in place to support on-time departures by ensuring a faster and seamless boarding and disembarking process. By adhering to this policy, we help avoid congestion that can negatively impact the guest experience, particularly during boarding and disembarkation,” Dailisan explained. He also noted that compliance with the policy ensures fair access to overhead compartments for all passengers, maintaining both safety and comfort.

AirAsia further clarified that multiple items strapped, wrapped, or tied together will not be counted as a single piece of baggage. The airline also reminded passengers that any items purchased at the airport count towards the cabin baggage allowance. However, duty-free items packed in a Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB), sealed until the passenger’s final destination, and accompanied by proof of purchase, are exempt from this allowance.

Avoiding Additional Charges and Delays

To avoid any inconvenience, AirAsia advises passengers to check in any baggage that exceeds the allowed weight or size limits. Strict inspections will be conducted at the boarding gate, and any baggage that does not comply with the policy may incur a gate baggage fee.

Dailisan reiterated the importance of adhering to the cabin baggage policy to prevent unexpected charges and reduce congestion during boarding and disembarkation. “Compliance also helps maintain safety and comfort while promoting consistency and fairness, ensuring a smoother travel experience for all guests,” he added.
