Etihad Airways has announced that it has entered into codeshare and interlining agreements with six international airlines to further enhance its global network. Etihad has teamed up with three new partners, namely Austrian Airlines, Airlink South Africa, and Philippine Airlines (PAL), and has revived its previous interline agreements with Biman Bangladesh, Air Seychelles, and ITA Airways.
Etihad’s interlining agreement with PAL is set to benefit a large number of Filipinos living in the UAE, as it will provide them access to 19 domestic destinations, including Cebu, Davao, and Kalibo. PAL, on the other hand, will also be able to tap into Etihad’s extensive network, which covers almost 30 airlines across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue Officer, said that the partnership with PAL will be a boon for the Filipino community in the UAE, as it will provide them with easy access to domestic Filipino destinations. “Teaming up with Philippine Airlines provides easy access to 19 domestic Filipino destinations including Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, and Kalibo, to and from Etihad’s double daily Manila service, for the large Filipino diaspora living in the UAE,” said De.
Benefits of Interline Agreements
Interlining and codeshare agreements between airlines provide a more seamless experience for passengers when travelling with two partner airlines. With these agreements, travellers only need to check in once, and their checked baggage will make it to their end destination without having to collect it at the stopover airport.
Etihad Airways currently has 34 partner airlines, including major carriers like Turkish Airlines, Air France-KLM, Korean Air, and China Eastern, offering its passengers a vast range of connecting options. Codeshare and interlining agreements are becoming increasingly popular among airlines as they allow them to extend their networks and provide passengers with more travel options.
Etihad’s latest partnership with PAL and other airlines is expected to help the airline rebuild its business as it recovers from the impact of the pandemic. It also demonstrates its commitment to providing its passengers with a seamless travel experience, even when they are travelling with partner airlines.
