AirAsia Philippines Maintains High OTP for First Half of 2023

AirAsia Philippines Maintains High OTP for First Half of 2023

A key measure of an airline’s efficiency and customer service is its On-Time Performance (OTP), a metric that quantifies punctuality. If an airline arrives or departs within 15 minutes of its scheduled time, it’s considered on-time. With this OTP standard in mind, AirAsia Philippines is setting the pace with a promising performance in the first half of 2023.

Despite various hindrances such as unpredictable weather and safety issues, AirAsia Philippines achieved a positive OTP of 81% for the first half of 2023. They even recorded their highest OTP to date on July 6, 2023, at 94%.

Navigating the Skies Despite Challenges

While AirAsia strives to uphold punctuality, safety always comes first. Unforeseen circumstances such as bird strikes and lightning red alerts can greatly affect the OTP. According to the Air Carriers Association of the Philippines (ACAP), the first half of 2023 saw a significant increase in bird strikes, with local carriers reporting 107 incidents. These led to varying levels of aircraft damage.

Furthermore, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) recorded a surge in lightning alerts in May and June of the same year. Compared to 60 instances in 2022, there were 166 instances in the first half of 2023. A red alert results in a temporary suspension of flights and ground movements, while a yellow alert signals caution for safety reasons.

AirAsia’s Commitment to Service

Despite these challenges, AirAsia remains committed to safety, passenger comfort, and on-time performance. Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines Country Head for Communications and Public Affairs and Spokesperson, affirmed their dedication: “Our day-to-day operations at AirAsia focus on safety, passenger comfort, and on-time-performance, in that order, to make sure that we safely and efficiently fly our guests to their destinations. We are not perfect but we try to do it best for our guests and their loved ones. We are also working closely with government and industry partners in mitigating controllable circumstances that are aimed at improving the efficiency of airport operations.”
