Air Canada Orders 18 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners

Air Canada Orders 18 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners

Air Canada has recently placed an order for 18 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, with an option for 12 more. This move aligns with Air Canada’s strategy to cut down on carbon emissions while also expanding its global reach.

A Win for Sustainability and Efficiency

Michael Rousseau, the CEO of Air Canada, emphasized the dual benefits of this decision. “Our experience shows customers greatly enjoy flying on the Dreamliner, so we are pleased to offer them a larger version of this popular aircraft, which will premiere a new, state-of-the-art interior cabin design. As importantly, the 787 is highly fuel efficient and will generate operational savings as well as support our sustainability goals of reducing emissions,” he said. The 787 Dreamliner is a game-changer when it comes to fuel efficiency, offering up to 25% less fuel consumption compared to older jets. This helps Air Canada move closer to its long-term environmental goals.

The new Dreamliners will not just be eco-friendly; they’ll also be instrumental in helping Air Canada grow its international presence. The airline plans to use these planes to add routes in both new and existing markets. Stan Deal, the CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said, “The 787-10 will provide Air Canada with greater flexibility and commonality across its expansive network, connecting Canadians to destinations around the world.”

The Dreamliner Family and Air Canada

Air Canada already has 38 Dreamliners in its fleet, including eight 787-8s and 30 787-9s. The 787-10, the largest model in the Dreamliner family, can carry up to 336 passengers and has a range of 6,330 nautical miles. Once the first 787-10 is delivered, Air Canada will be one of only five airlines in the world to operate all three variants of the Dreamliner, joining the likes of ANA, British Airways, and United Airlines.

This deal is also a boost for the Canadian economy. Boeing has more than 550 suppliers in Canada and contributes around CAD $4 billion to the country’s economy each year. The deal supports over 14,000 direct and indirect jobs in Canada, including at Boeing’s aerospace composite manufacturing facility in Winnipeg.
