AirAsia Philippines and Thailand reaffirm strong tourism partnership

AirAsia Philippines and Thailand reaffirm strong tourism partnership

As both organizations work to increase demand for travel between the two nations, AirAsia Philippines and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) highlight their close collaboration.

The strengthened partnership is part of AirAsia Philippines’ effort to maintain demand for its Manila-Bangkok (DMK) route, which in Q4 of 2022 took the top rank among the airline’s most popular and lucrative overseas destinations. From September through November, the route had an average load factor of 82 percent, above the 71 percent average for all international routes during that time. The number of passengers flying to DMK during October and November is already double that of Q3 2022.

In November, AirAsia Philippines expanded the number of weekly flights from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Don Mueang International Airport to 11.

AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer Ricky Isla shares, “It is an honor to be working closely with the Tourism Authority of Thailand as we remain aggressive in the promotion of the country as a viable leisure destination for Filipinos. We are greatly inspired by the relaxation of Thai border protocols which immensely improved guest interest and confidence to travel to the Land of Smiles.  We are closing 2022 with 11x weekly flights to Bangkok – twice every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday – to accommodate the fast-growing Filipino foot traffic to Thailand.”

TAT is aiming to promote new high-potential tourist attractions in Thailand, such as culinary tourism, while also capitalizing on the appeal of existing sites in cities like Bangkok. TAT further urged visitors to go on weekdays to ease congestion, lessen cultural and environmental degradation, and support a more sustainable tourism ecosystem.

Deputy Governor for International Marketing of Tourism Authority of Thailand in Asia & South Pacific Tanes Petsuwan shares, “We wish to deliver fresh travel experiences through new segments like sustainable and responsible tourism and health and wellness; while still highlighting Thailand’s strength in nature, food, and culture. TAT aims to create a meaningful travel experience that will not only be meaningful for travelers but also for the communities and the environment. We are actively encouraging tourists to engage with the people of Thailand as we want to reconnect with the world.”

In order to entice more tourists to visit Thailand, AirAsia Philippines is providing a Php1,612 one-way base cost for reservations booked before January 8, 2023. Likewise, DMK-MNL reservations for travel until June 30, 2023, are also available at a one-way base ticket of 1,173.

AirAsia Philippines reminds its guests to regularly visit the airasia flysafe page for updates on flight schedules and travel protocols.  Guests flying to Bangkok may book via the airasia website or the airasia Super App.
