AirAsia Philippines is all set for a big 2024, thanks to a renewed agreement with Capital A and engine provider CFM International. This partnership aims to double the airline’s fleet count next year, supporting its expansion to 45 routes both within the Philippines and internationally.
A Boost for AirAsia’s Fleet and Routes
First Officer Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines Head of Communications and Public Affairs, shared some insights. He said, “The solid backing from CFM International will help us fast-track our recovery plan and expansion next year. We expect that this will also allow us to better operate our existing aircraft and the additional A321neo and A330 to service our existing and new markets here in the country and in ASEAN giving our guests a better alternative and the best value for money, whilst maintaining our world-class service.”
Capital A, the parent company of AirAsia Philippines, is also optimistic about the renewed partnership. The airline plans to expand its fleet to more than 300 aircraft in the next five years. This is part of their broader strategy to offer affordable and best-value travel options, connecting people across ASEAN and even further.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
AirAsia Philippines is also in sync with the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) plans for better connectivity between the Philippines and Thailand. DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista expressed support for Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri’s call for more direct flights from Thailand to tourist spots in the Philippines.
Dailisan commented on this, stating, “Should this proposal of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri be realized, we expect the move to enable more inclusive growth across our regional destinations, and we aim to do it with the best value.” He also mentioned that if more slots become available, AirAsia Philippines is ready to strengthen economic ties based on tourism and trade both in the Philippines and beyond.
As of September 2024, AirAsia Philippines operates flights from Manila International Airport to 11 domestic and 12 international destinations. They also maintain 2 domestic and 3 international flights out of Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
AirAsia Philippines is on track for significant growth, backed by strong partnerships like with CFM International and a focus on expanding its fleet and routes. The airline is not just looking to grow, but to offer more value to its passengers, all while maintaining high-quality service.
