Beginning in December, AirAsia Philippines will increase its frequency to three times weekly to Hong Kong, with flights scheduled every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. This, according to the airline, is to support the peak in inbound demand caused by holiday travel by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
According to data from the Department of Migrant Workers, over 188,000 Filipinos are currently working in Hong Kong as of August 2022. AirAsia Philippines, which primarily serves OFWs and business travelers from the city, ends Q3 2022 with a 70% load factor on its Manila-Hong Kong route, indicating an uptrend in demand toward the end of the year.
AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer Ricky Isla shares, “Hong Kong remains to be among the leading hosts of OFWs in Asia. Our goal as the world’s best low-cost airline is to give our kababayans the chance to go home with friendly fares and world-class service. Our guests can expect more flights to and from more AirAsia destinations very soon as we aim to achieve our pre-pandemic international operational capacity by the first half of 2023.”
AirAsia is offering a low one-way base fare of Php 1,411 from November 14 to 17, 2022, for travel until May 31, 2023, to support the increased frequency. Guests with AirAsia flight bookings to and from Hong Kong until December 17, 2022, can change their flight dates for free using the airasia Super App and website. New flight dates are available until December 31, 2022, allowing for greater flexibility and convenience.
The Hong Kong government recently abolished mandatory quarantine for inbound visitors in favor of a three-day medical surveillance – subject to Amber Code restrictions under Vaccine Pass. Before departing, guests should also check the conditions and requirements imposed by the authorities.
