AirAsia Philippines Joins Cebu Connect Initiative

AirAsia Philippines recently participated in the launch of the “Cebu Connect” initiative by Aboitiz GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (AGMCAC). This program aims to establish Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) as a top transfer hub for connecting flights, introducing a Minimum Connectivity Time (MCT) of 60 minutes.

AirAsia Philippines currently operates flights to and from MCIA, connecting with Manila and other destinations like Boracay, Davao, and Puerto Princesa. The airline has plans to expand its network by reopening popular international routes to Kuala Lumpur, Narita, Osaka, Taipei, and Seoul. AirAsia CEO Ricky Isla praised AGMCAC’s initiative, calling it a significant achievement for both the Philippines and the ASEAN region.

“We commend AGMCAC’s initiative for simplifying airport transfers. This delivers a great boost for millions of guests gaining access to a wider network of destinations while making travel to numerous connecting destinations more seamless and convenient. Integrating Cebu Connect into AirAsia Philippines’ offerings will elevate the quality of our services and strengthen our position as the leading low-cost airline,” said Isla.

Isla emphasized that this will provide millions of guests with access to a broader network of destinations. He also expressed AirAsia’s interest in offering new routes to destinations such as Bangkok, Vietnam, Phnom Penh, and additional cities in North Asia. “These potential routes will provide more travel options and strengthen Cebu’s position as a key international transfer hub in the region,” Isla added.
