AirAsia Philippines touts stronger ties with Singapore and South Korea

AirAsia Philippines is strengthening its partnerships with transportation and tourism agencies along its routes as travel demand rises in the fourth quarter. The world’s best low-cost airline recently met with policymakers from two of its most popular international destinations, Singapore and South Korea, to reaffirm AirAsia’s commitment to increasing foot traffic to these countries in the fourth quarter.

AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla and AirAsia Singapore CEO Logan Velaitham recently paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez, Chargé d’Affaires and Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, to discuss the growing demand for Manila-Singapore flights. Singapore ranks third to fourth on AirAsia’s list of top-preferred destinations, with the airline flying there four times per week. Isla and Velaitham also discussed bringing AirAsia’s cargo, BigPay, and Super App verticals to Singapore to serve Filipinos living in the country.

Isla also had a meeting with Hon. Yonghyun Choi, First Secretary and Infrastructure and Transportation Attache from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines, will discuss the airline’s current frequency to Seoul: Manila (7 times weekly) and Cebu (3 times weekly) (3x weekly). AirAsia Philippines plans to increase its Cebu-Seoul frequency to four times per week in November.

AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla shares, “We are determined to achieve our pre-pandemic international capacity by Q2 of 2023, and surpass our records come the second half. The demand for international travel is getting stronger every month as more countries relax their border protocols. We plan on increasing our frequency to our current routes and grow our number of destinations before the year ends.”

At the recently held BDO Travel sale, AirAsia Philippines saw an exceptional demand for international travel, with 55 percent of total sales coming from travel bookings to Seoul, Singapore, Osaka, and Bangkok. Domestically, Caticlan continues to be the most popular destination.

The world’s best low-cost airline also paid a visit to Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco recently to align the airline’s growth and recovery strategy with the agency’s vision for the local tourism sector. The need for better regional connectivity, an expanded inter-island route network, and the promotion of lesser-known local destinations were among the discussion’s highlights.
