Today marks a significant event in the history of AirAsia Philippines after moving their domestic flights to the NAIA Terminal 2. From now on, all domestic flights will take off and land at the centennial terminal, providing travelers with a more spacious environment, improved facilities, and an overall more comfortable journey.
Ricky Isla, the CEO of AirAsia Philippines, along with other airline officials, joined hands with Bryan Co, the acting head of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), Carmelo Arcilla, the Executive Director of the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), and Atty. Frank Edward Marty, the Assistant Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) FSIS. They participated in a holy mass to commemorate this transition.
The Grand Welcome
As the AirAsia aircraft touched down at its new home, a water cannon salute greeted it, celebrating its arrival. This was followed by a ceremonial cake cutting, marking the event’s significance for the guests. The festivities didn’t end there. The south wing of the terminal has allocated twenty check-in counters (22-41) for AirAsia passengers. Once they clear security screening, travelers can enjoy an array of food stalls in the passenger lounge while they wait to board from one of the seven operational aero bridges in the south wing.
For a smooth, contactless, and convenient check-in experience, self-check-in kiosks stand ready beside the counters.
Preparing Passengers for the Move
In anticipation of potential confusion during the transition, AirAsia took proactive steps to ensure a smooth transition for its guests. Preflight notifications were sent via email and SMS two months ahead of the scheduled transfer. For the first few weeks after the move, a Customer Happiness help desk and shuttle van service will be available at NAIA Terminals 3 and 4 to assist guests in swiftly transferring to Terminal 2.
Isla states, “We consistently maintain an On-Time Performance (OTP) average of 80-85%. Certain days even see us achieving a perfect 100% OTP, barring disruptions like weather changes, air traffic congestion, or unscheduled maintenance. This consistent performance demonstrates the dedication of our Allstar employees to delivering the best for our guests. We promise the same level of commitment, if not more, as we journey through this winning move.”
AirAsia’s Future Prospects
With the move to NAIA Terminal 2, AirAsia sets the stage for an exciting future. The airline, which currently operates over 100 domestic flights daily, plans to increase routes and frequency during the winter season. This expansion will provide passengers with affordable flights coupled with the world-class service AirAsia is known for.
MIAA’s Bryan Co warmly welcomed AirAsia Philippines to its new home at the NAIA terminal 2 for domestic flights, expressing excitement for the company’s post-pandemic growth trajectory. CAB’s Carmelo Arcilla echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between industry stakeholders and the government for the passengers’ ultimate benefit.
With this move, AirAsia further cements its commitment to providing top-notch service to its passengers, reinforcing its position as the world’s best low-cost airline for 14 consecutive times.
