American Airlines is set to redefine its global network in 2024 by expanding its nonstop international operations. This includes introducing a new service to Tulum, Mexico (TQO), starting next spring, which promises to open doors to a world of ancient ruins, mystical cenotes, and idyllic white-sand beaches.
Additionally, American Airlines has taken a significant step by applying to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to initiate the only nonstop flight service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND).
Flights to Tulum
Starting March 28, American Airlines plans to launch four daily nonstop flights to Tulum, Mexico. This new addition strengthens American’s commitment to providing comprehensive travel options to its customers. Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, emphasizes the airline’s goal to connect customers to desired destinations. He highlights that with this new service, American will have more flights to Tulum from the U.S. than any other airline, ensuring convenient connectivity to this sought-after vacation spot in the Riviera Maya.
American’s initiative to start flights to Tulum builds on its extensive service to nearby Cancun (CUN). During peak winter times, the airline operates up to 40 daily departures to 18 U.S. destinations from Cancun. The new Tulum service, with one-stop connections from over 200 destinations, positions American Airlines as a leader in offering unparalleled nationwide connectivity to the Riviera Maya.
The flights to Tulum will be operated using Boeing 737 aircraft, ensuring a comfortable journey for all passengers. These aircraft are equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, a wide selection of streaming entertainment, and in-seat power. Tickets for these Tulum flights will be available for purchase starting November 13 on aa.com and through American’s mobile app.
New York to Tokyo
American Airlines is ambitiously aiming to connect two of the world’s major cities with its proposed international service between New York JFK and Tokyo Haneda. Pending approval, this service will operate all year round, offering daily flights. This new route is intended to complement the existing frequencies operated by American’s partner, Japan Airlines. Molly Wilkinson, American’s Vice President of Regulatory and International Government Affairs, expresses excitement about the prospect of providing nonstop service from JFK to Tokyo. This route will not only add an East Coast gateway to Haneda but also provide more options for travel to Tokyo, a key business hub.
