Cebu Pacific has a positive outlook for air travel in the Philippines. The airline was a co-presenter at the Philippine Aviation Summit on September 27-28, where the focus was on finding real-world solutions for the country’s air travel sector. Despite the global hiccups that have shaken the airline industry, Cebu Pacific is confident about the Philippines’ capacity to bounce back.
Summit Highlights and the Road Ahead
During the summit, themed “Philippine Aviation: Ready for Takeoff,” Cebu Pacific’s CEO Michael Szucs shared his thoughts on why the Philippines has a strategic edge. He emphasized the growing middle class in the country, who are not only increasing in wealth but are also eager to travel. “We are strategically placed within the ASEAN region to be a hub, allowing more connectivity between all the people in this region,” Szucs noted. He also mentioned the untapped tourism potential and said, “Now is our time to get back to that pedestal, to that very top.”
Senator Grace Poe, another speaker at the event, stressed the need for teamwork between the government and private sectors. She discussed the rising demand for travel and how it goes hand in hand with the government’s aim to enhance public welfare. “It is my hope that government, private sector, and other stakeholders can work together on air transport projects to generate economic growth and improve the quality of life,” Poe said.
Sustainability and a Customer-Focused Strategy
Alex Reyes, Cebu Pacific’s Chief Strategy Officer, touched on the environmental aspects, underlining the need for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in airline operations. He advocated for a united effort to invest in SAF technology and urged government partners to offer the right incentives. “If everyone can put SAF on top of their agenda, it all brings us to a much better place for the entire aviation sector,” Reyes stated.
Lei Apostol, Cebu Pacific’s Vice President for Customer Service Operations, talked about the airline’s commitment to its passengers. She emphasized that keeping customers at the core of their mission is essential for supporting the industry’s growth. “Our ability to provide the needs of our passengers when looking to maximize the potential growth will be crucial,” Apostol said, outlining Cebu Pacific’s initiatives to improve its passenger services.
The airline sector worldwide took a hit from the pandemic, and the Philippines was no exception. However, Cebu Pacific’s optimistic view signals its faith in the sector’s long-term recovery. The airline is all in on delivering air travel that’s not just safe and reliable but also affordable. To sum it up, Cebu Pacific is bullish on the growth of the Philippine aviation sector, with a focus on strategic positioning, customer service, and environmental responsibility.
