Cebu Pacific Takes Delivery of Another ATR 72-600

Cebu Pacific has welcomed its sixth aircraft delivery for the year, an ATR 72-600, enhancing its commitment to inter-island connectivity in the Philippines. The new turboprop aircraft arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila on June 5.

Michael Szucs, Cebu Pacific’s Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the importance of investing in turboprop aircraft to serve the unique travel needs of the Philippines. “With more than 7,100 islands in the Philippines, our commitment to serve passengers traveling between inter-island destinations requires us to invest in turboprop aircraft,” he said. This latest addition brings Cebu Pacific’s turboprop fleet to 15, with the sixteenth ATR turboprop expected in October. This expansion will make Cebu Pacific the operator of the largest turboprop fleet in the Philippines, allowing the airline to serve more passengers across the country.

Expanding Reach to Remote Destinations

Cebu Pacific operates its turboprop fleet across 25 domestic destinations, catering to nearly 2.5 million passengers annually. These destinations include unique and hard-to-reach locations such as Camiguin, Calbayog, Siargao, Masbate, Surigao, Busuanga, and Naga, which are only accessible by turboprop and smaller aircraft.

The ATR 72-600, manufactured by Avions de Transport Regional (ATR) in France and Italy, represents the latest generation of twin-engine turboprop airliners. This model is renowned for its ability to access short, narrow, and unpaved runways, and handle steep approaches and high-altitude operations. It accommodates around 78 passengers and boasts a maximum range of 1,300 kilometers, depending on payload.

This includes eight Airbus A330s, 39 Airbus A320s, and 21 Airbus A321s, enabling the airline to provide the widest network coverage in the Philippines. This diversified fleet allows Cebu Pacific to cater to both regional and international travel demands, ensuring connectivity for passengers across various destinations.
