Delta’s Role in Bringing Americans Home from Israel

Delta’s Role in Bringing Americans Home from Israel

Delta Airlines has been actively involved in helping Americans get back to the U.S. from Israel. The airline supported the U.S. State Department’s efforts to bring American citizens, permanent residents, and their families from Tel Aviv to the U.S. Delta arranged government-chartered flights to Athens, Greece, and then flew passengers back to the U.S. on commercial flights.

Special Flights and Ongoing Services

Delta scheduled three extra flights from Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) from October 16 to October 18. These flights were operated by a Delta Airbus A330-900 aircraft, which has 281 total seats. Over the three days, these extra flights carried 455 customers. This was in addition to Delta’s regular flights between the U.S. and Athens.

Even though the special charters have ended, Delta continues its regular service. The airline offers daily flights between Athens and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and JFK. Delta also flies between Athens and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) three times a week. Customers can book seats on these flights through Delta’s website.

Safety Measures and Future Bookings

Delta has put a pause on its service to and from Tel Aviv through October 31. The airline is closely monitoring the security situation and will adjust its operations based on the latest intelligence reports and travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State. Delta has extended a waiver for all customers who have booked flights to and from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport (TLV). This allows them to rebook their travel on available flights until September 6, 2024, or process their own refunds.

While booking is currently suspended for flights to and from Tel Aviv via ATL and BOS, reservations for flights between JFK and TLV starting November 1 are still available. Delta advises customers to be prepared for possible changes to the flight schedule, including more cancellations if needed, for safety reasons.

Delta’s Humanitarian Efforts

Delta has also made a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross for humanitarian efforts in the region. This aid is aimed at helping Israelis, Palestinians, and all those affected in the area. The American Red Cross, in coordination with Magen David Adom and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, is providing emergency assistance such as health services and ambulance services.

The American Red Cross has been Delta’s nonprofit partner since 1941. This recent contribution is in addition to Delta’s annual $1 million grant to the American Red Cross as part of their Annual Disaster Giving Program.

Delta Airlines has played a significant role in helping Americans return from Israel to the U.S. The airline arranged special flights and continues to offer regular services between Athens and various U.S. cities. Delta is also committed to safety and has made provisions for customers affected by the suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv. Additionally, Delta has contributed to humanitarian efforts in the region through a donation to the American Red Cross.
