Emirates and United Enter Into Codeshare Agreement

Six months ago, Emirates and United Airlines gathered in Washington to announce their new partnership, which aimed to increase interlining activities and develop a codeshare agreement. Now, the time has finally come for the official activation of their codeshare partnership on March 30th. This collaboration will make traveling between the US and other destinations around the world much easier for passengers flying on Emirates.

Better Connectivity

Thanks to this newly launched partnership, passengers can now enjoy enhanced customer offerings such as single-ticket issuance with Emirates baggage allowance and baggage transfers through to their final destination. Additionally, travelers flying with Emirates to the US can access over 150 destinations within United Airlines’ extensive domestic network, including locations in Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, and Central and South America.

Emirates will be connecting to these destinations from three of the country’s largest airport hubs: Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and San Francisco International Airport. For example, passengers heading to Detroit can fly directly from Dubai to Chicago or Houston and then connect on a United Airlines flight to their final destination. Moreover, the Gulf carrier will enable its Skywards members to earn and redeem miles on all flights across United Airlines’ worldwide network.

Expanding Footprint in the US

Adnan Kazim, Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates, celebrated the activation of the partnership, saying, “We are extremely delighted to activate this historic partnership with United and significantly expand our footprint in the US with United Airlines’ vast network, which will help us to offer more choices to our customer base from across the globe and meet demand from across segments who can now connect seamlessly to and from a broader network of more than 150 domestic points.”

As Emirates expands its footprint within the US, the codeshare partnership also allows United Airlines to extend its reach into other regions worldwide. US passengers can now use United Airlines’ services to connect to Emirates-operated flights bound for Dubai via the three major hubs. From Dubai International Airport, travelers can continue onward to numerous unique destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.

However, it’s worth noting that while Emirates Skywards members enjoy full rewarding benefits, MileagePlus members can only earn miles on select flights. These include daily flights from Newark Liberty International Airport to Dubai International Airport on United Airlines and onwards to select destinations in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia that Emirates will operate later.

Now that the codeshare partnership between Emirates and United Airlines has finally been activated, just in time for the peak summer season, passengers have even more destination choices across both airlines. The world just got a whole lot bigger.
