Taiwanese carrier EVA Air has officially confirmed that it will be adding five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its fleet. This news, which comes as no surprise to those who have been following Simple Flying, will help the airline increase the efficiency of its widebody aircraft fleet.
EVA Air is no stranger to the 787, already operating 10 units, including four 787-9s and six 787-10s. The -9s are equipped with 278 economy and 26 business seats, while the -10s feature 308 economy and 34 business seats. The airline also has outstanding orders for nine -9s and seven -10s.
With the easing of pandemic restrictions in EVA Air’s key markets, the new Dreamliners will help the airline meet the increasing demand over the next decade. In a statement, the EVA Air president said, “Our 787 fleet has become the foundation of our carbon-neutral growth strategy and we will continue to leverage this airplane’s unrivaled efficiency and performance for many years to come. This new order supports our ongoing commitment to operate a more sustainable fleet that will enable us to reduce carbon emissions, while providing our passengers with world-class service.”
Boeing Commercial Airlines president and CEO Stan Deal also expressed enthusiasm about the deal, stating that EVA Air’s repeat orders for the 787 “serve as a testament to the value this family of airplanes brings to its network.”
Besides the 787s, EVA Air’s widebody fleet includes eight 777-200Fs, 34 777-300ERs, and another 777 freighter on order. The 787s, which accounted for around 25% of EVA’s widebody flights from Taipei earlier this month, will play a crucial role in modernizing passenger operations. They will primarily fly to destinations such as Bangkok, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Milan, Munich, Vienna, and Seattle, showcasing their versatility on both continental and transoceanic routes.
The new Dreamliners, known for their modern interiors and quiet engines, will help EVA Air maintain its reputation for high-quality customer service. Moreover, the new aircraft will offer up to 25% greater fuel efficiency, thanks to their 80% composite materials and advanced GEnx engines
