IndiGo May Enter into an Airbus A350 Order

Budget airline IndiGo is setting its sights on the skies above with a possible Airbus A350 order. This move signals the carrier’s ambition to expand beyond its current regional routes and enter the long-haul travel market.

IndiGo, known for its fleet of narrowbody Airbus A320 and ATR 72-600 aircraft, is considering adding up to 30 Airbus A350s to its hangar. These widebody jets offer greater range and passenger capacity, perfectly suited for long-distance flights. Currently, IndiGo relies on wet-leased Boeing 777-300ERs from Turkish Airlines for some international routes.

The potential A350 order represents a significant shift for IndiGo. It signifies the airline’s desire to compete with established carriers on long-haul destinations like Amsterdam and cities in the United Kingdom. While IndiGo’s upcoming A321XLRs will offer extended range, some routes still require the capabilities of a widebody aircraft.

IndiGo’s move reflects a growing trend in the Indian aviation market. Passengers are increasingly seeking international travel options, and airlines are responding by expanding their fleets and destinations. This potential Airbus A350 order positions IndiGo to become a major player in the long-haul travel market, offering passengers more choices and potentially lower fares for these extended journeys.
