Medical Emergency Leads Emirates A380 to Munich

Medical Emergency Leads Emirates A380 to Munich

An unexpected turn of events happened on an Emirates Airbus A380 when it had to make a sudden stop at Munich Airport due to an emergency. The plane was en route from Dubai to London Gatwick when a medical emergency on board forced the pilots to change course.

The Diversion and Landing

The plane, with registration A6-EOZ, was flying Emirates flight EK15. It was originally headed from Dubai International Airport to London-Gatwick Airport. But the pilots had to make a quick decision when they found themselves over Germany. They chose Munich Airport as the best place to land, touching down at 12:49 pm local time. Before landing, the flight crew switched their transponder code to 7700, which is the universal sign for a general emergency on a plane.

A6-EOZ has been part of the Emirates fleet since May 2016. The aircraft offers a total of 519 seats, divided into 14 first-class, 76 business-class, and 429 economy-class seats.

What Happened After the Landing?

Once the plane was safely on the ground in Munich, medical staff came on board to assist the passenger in need. An Emirates spokesperson shared in an email, “Emirates flight EK 15 from Dubai to London Gatwick on September 12 was diverted to Munich due to a passenger medical emergency.” The passenger got off the plane in Munich to get the “necessary treatment” he needed. After that, the plane took off again, heading back to its original destination of London Gatwick.

Emirates

The Airbus A380 didn’t stay grounded for long. According to flight data, it left Munich at 3:08 pm local time and was set to land in London at 3:26 pm local time. Normally, flight EK15 is supposed to land in London at 12:35 pm daily. Emergencies happen, and it’s good to know the crew can handle them well.
