Philippine Airlines (PAL) is taking a significant step forward in its international connectivity. They are doing so by broadening their global network to include Manila-Kaohsiung and Cebu-Taipei routes, thanks to a codeshare partnership with China Airlines.
This partnership allows both PAL and China Airlines to provide their customers with enhanced connectivity and convenience. Both airlines are keen on promoting the development of the air travel market between the Philippines and Taiwan.
Details on the New Manila-Kaohsiung Route
PAL now provides a four times weekly codeshared service between Manila and Kaohsiung. The flight PR 3300/CI 712 departs Manila at 10:00 AM and lands in Kaohsiung at 11:55 AM local time every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The return flight PR 3301/CI 711 departs Kaohsiung at 07:15 AM and arrives in Manila at 09:00 AM, also on the same days.
These flights are operated by China Airlines using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
New Cebu-Taipei Service Now Available
As part of the partnership, PAL offers five times weekly service from Cebu to Taipei and vice versa. The flight PR 3302/CI 706 leaves Cebu at 12:05 PM every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday and lands at Taipei Taoyuan Airport at 3:00 PM. The return flight PR 3303/CI 705 departs from Taipei at 8:10 AM and arrives at Mactan-Cebu International Airport at 11:05 AM, on the same days.
China Airlines operates these legs, using Airbus A321neo aircraft.
A Move to Encourage Travel and Connectivity
Bud Britanico, PAL Vice President for Sales, expressed his enthusiasm about the expanded services. He said, “Philippine Airlines is keen to serve the growing demand for travel stimulated by the continuing visa-free arrangement for Filipino travel to Taiwan. We will build on our strong partnership with China Airlines to offer more convenient access for Filipino tourists to visit Taiwan, even as we welcome Taiwanese tourists to visit the fun and festive Philippines.”
The added services build upon an existing codeshare partnership on the Manila-Taipei and Taipei-Manila routes between PAL and China Airlines. Each airline operates 14 weekly flights on these routes.
PAL and China Airlines have been codeshare partners since 2015. Taiwan remains visa-free for Filipinos, targeting to attract at least 320,000 Filipino tourists annually. Similarly, the Philippine Department of Tourism aims to welcome 200,000 Taiwanese visitors per year to the Philippines.
The codeshare agreement further allows China Airlines to tap into PAL’s domestic network. China Airlines can place its “CI” code on select PAL-operated flights from Manila to Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo, as well as from Cebu to Davao and Iloilo. This is for the carriage of passengers traveling between Taiwan and these Philippine cities.
