Philippine Airlines (PAL), the country’s flag carrier, will bring back direct flights between Manila and Guangzhou (Canton), the megaport city and gateway to China’s Pearl River Delta Economic Zone in Guangdong province. Guangzhou is also known as Canton. Starting on January 14, 2023, PAL will begin offering service to Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport once a week on Saturdays.
“We are gearing up for the resumption of regular passenger flights to Mainland China – helping pave the way for the full restoration of our pre-pandemic flight frequencies. By adding Guangzhou to our roster of operated flights, we are connecting to the world’s second largest economy and enhancing friendly ties between China and the Philippines,” PAL Vice President for Network Planning Christoph Gaertner said.
Early morning departures are available on the PAL flights to and from Guangzhou.
Every Saturday at 3:35 AM, PR 382 leaves Manila for Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport. It arrives at 6:10 AM the following morning. PR 383 is the weekly Saturday morning flight between Guangzhou and Manila. It leaves Guangzhou at 8:40 AM and lands in Manila at 11:10 AM (there will be adjusted timings starting January 28, 2023 – PR 383 departure will be at 07:10 AM, arriving in Manila at 09:35 AM)
PAL will use Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A321ceo aircraft on the Guangzhou route.
Today, January 13, 2023, PAL began operating a single trip per week between Manila and Xiamen as part of a larger plan to gradually restore services to mainland China.
To assure the greatest degree of health safety for its passengers, PAL is collaborating closely with Chinese and Philippine health and aviation authorities as it gradually resumes flights to the Chinese mainland.
“We uphold the highest standards of safety in all our flights. Aircraft surfaces are disinfected before and after every journey, and high efficiency particulate (HEPA) air filters cleanse the cabin air of bacteria and viruses with 99.99% efficacy,” said PAL VP Mr. Gaertner. “As always, our passengers will need to comply with any arrival testing protocols implemented by the Philippine and Chinese governments.”
Before the pandemic, PAL operated 34 weekly flights between Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Quanzhou (Jinjiang), and Xiamen on the Chinese mainland.
Starting in March 2020, PAL has been running both regular and ad hoc all-cargo and charter flights to mainland China. These flights have included passenger charters to Tianjin as well as vaccine transport flights.
