Royal Air Philippines is set to launch direct flights between Davao and Hong Kong in the last quarter of this year. The announcement was made by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) on (July 31, 2023), through its Secretary Maria Belen Acosta during a press conference in Davao City. Acosta revealed that the new Davao-Hong Kong route would be formally announced by the airline company later in the week.
Royal Air Philippines later confirmed that the inaugural flight for this direct route would be on (October 8, 2023). This announcement is a welcome piece of news for travelers, traders, and tourism stakeholders, as it brings forth new opportunities and conveniences for the two cities.
Flight Schedule and Details
The airline detailed that the non-stop flights between Davao and Hong Kong would operate twice a week, specifically on Thursdays and Sundays. Travelers flying from Hong Kong can catch flight RW4001, which takes off at 11:55 AM and arrives in Davao at 3:05 PM. The return flight, RW4000, departs from Davao at 4:05 PM and reaches Hong Kong at 7:15 PM. These convenient schedules are bound to appeal to business travelers and tourists alike.
Revival of the Davao-Hong Kong Route
The launch of the Davao-Hong Kong direct flight by Royal Air Philippines marks a significant comeback of direct travel between the two cities. The route had been missing since Cathay Dragon suspended its operations in 2020, a decision prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new route’s establishment is not just a return to the pre-pandemic state but is expected to act as a catalyst to boost tourism and trade between Davao and Hong Kong. Moreover, it provides more travel options and conveniences for people residing in or visiting these cities.
Royal Air Philippines is steering a new direction in connecting two vibrant cities and fostering cultural exchanges, business opportunities, and leisure travel. The flights will no doubt play a crucial role in the economic rejuvenation of both regions, signifying an important milestone in the recovering global travel landscape.
