In an unexpected twist for an airline that solely operates Airbus and Boeing aircraft, Scoot, a Singapore Airlines subsidiary, has recently decided to lease up to nine Embraer E190-E2 jets to facilitate its regional growth.
In collaboration with Azorra, this fleet addition will not only bolster Scoot’s growth in Southeast Asia, but also underline its dedication to sustainability with the introduction of the most fuel-efficient, and notably the quietest, sub-150 seater aircraft.
Scoot’s CEO, Leslie Thng, enthusiastically welcomes the E190-E2 into their fold, asserting that this decision aligns perfectly with the airline’s mission to operate a modern, fuel-efficient fleet and expand their network across non-metro destinations from their Singapore hub.
Embracing Embraer’s Vision for Sustainable Aviation
The addition of the E190-E2 aircraft, hailed as one of Embraer’s latest feats in commercial aviation, is scheduled for delivery in 2024. This model is part of the Brazilian manufacturer’s E-Jets E2 family, which entered service in 2018 and has been adopted by various airlines, including KLM, Porter, and Azul.
CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, Arjan Meijer, applauds Scoot’s move to be the region’s first major E2 operator. He affirms that the Embraer team is primed to support Scoot in its bid to bolster connectivity and regional growth, underscoring the unique value the E2 aircraft brings to airlines and passengers alike.
Beyond Performance: The E190-E2’s Environmental Edge
In addition to operational efficiency, the E190-E2 boasts an environmentally friendly design. Embraer’s E-Jets E2 family stands out for its exceptional environmental efficiency, striking a balance between operational performance and passenger comfort. This aircraft’s aerodynamic design, combined with cutting-edge technology and an innovative wing design, results in a significant 25% reduction in carbon emissions and fuel consumption compared to its predecessor.
Embraer’s commitment to sustainability is embodied in its ambitious aim to be carbon neutral by 2040 and achieve carbon-neutral growth starting from 2022. This initiative aligns with the broader aviation industry’s objective to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. As an industry leader, Embraer has demonstrated its dedication to sustainable aviation through the successful test flight of the E195-E2, the largest aircraft in the E-Jets E2 family, using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in June 2022.
As Scoot continues its quest to serve more short and medium-haul flights across Southeast Asia, the introduction of the E190-E2 marks a significant step towards sustainable growth. By embracing Embraer’s vision for sustainable aviation, Scoot sets a new standard for airlines regionally and globally, demonstrating the growing importance of sustainability in the industry.
