Singapore Airlines is ready to reinstate its Airbus A380 service to Tokyo Narita, breathing new life into the route. It was among the first globally to feature the A380 back in 2008. The flight using this aircraft was last seen in early 2020 before a wave of change swept across the world. Presently, Singapore Airlines operates a fleet of 12 A380s, with 10 of them in active service.
Transition to Winter Schedules
The Singapore Airlines Airbus A380, with a capacity of 471 seats spread across four classes, will return to the Japan route beginning Sunday, October 29th. This date aligns with the shift to winter schedules for airlines in the Northern Hemisphere. The revamped service will run daily, following the schedule detailed below in local time.
The Singapore to Tokyo Narita flight, designated as SQ638, takes off at 11:55 PM and touches down at 7:30 AM the next day, totalling a block time of six hours and 35 minutes. The return journey from Tokyo Narita to Singapore, marked as SQ637, departs at 10:00 AM and lands at 4:55 PM, a duration of seven hours and 55 minutes.
Switching to the Airbus
The reintroduction of the Airbus A380 means that it will replace the 787-10 that was previously scheduled on this route. As a member of the Star Alliance, Singapore Airlines also operates a second daily Narita flight using the 777-300ER (Flight SQ12/SQ11), which then carries on to Los Angeles.
An Expanded Tokyo Presence
Singapore Airlines also offers triple daily flights to Haneda, resulting in a total of five daily flights to Tokyo. When we look at the flight schedule for the first week of November, it becomes clear that Tokyo is tied as the third most-served city in Singapore Airlines’ roster. Kuala Lumpur tops the list with 47 weekly flights, followed by Bali-Denpasar and Jakarta each with 42 weekly flights. Tokyo shares the third spot with Bangkok and Penang, given the frequency of flights.
