Kicking off the Farnborough Airshow 2022 was a big splash by Delta after it announced an order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft with an option of 30 more. The 737 MAX 10 is the largest 737 variant ever made. It is also a direct competitor of the Airbus A321neo.
Deliveries will begin in 2025 up to 2029.
Delta has been an operator of the Boeing 737 NG series with 159 737-900ER, 77 737-800NG, and one 737-700. The airline also operates a fleet of 450 Boeing jets such as 717s, 737s, 757s, and 767s.
It is still unknown how many seats will be placed but Delta Air Lines has also contracted with Boeing Global Services for a full interior reconfiguration of 29 Next Generation 737-900ERs in its fleet. This will support having these airplanes ready to enter Delta Air Lines 2025 summer schedule with fully refreshed interiors.
According to Boeing, the 737-10 will provide Delta Air Lines with the best per-seat economics of any single-aisle Boeing model, reducing fuel use and emissions by 20-30 percent compared to the airplanes it replaces. The jet can cover 99% of single-aisle routes around the world, seating up to 230 passengers with a maximum range of 3,300 nautical miles.
The Boeing 737 MAX 10
The Boeing 737-10 or the MAX 10 is the largest variant of the Boeing 737. It is capable of carrying 230 all-economy seats or 204 seats on a bi-class configuration. Powering the aircraft are two CFM LEAP 1B turbofan engines with a thrust of 29,317 lbf per engine. This gives the aircraft a maximum take-off weight of 197,900 lb and a range of 6,110 km depending also on the seat configuration and other airline requirements.
