Cebu Pacific will make its first commercial flight using SAF

The airline industry must prioritize sustainability and efficiency. Renewable fuels have been developed by the industry. SAF, or Sustainable Aviation Fuel, is the result of this. This type of fuel emits fewer carbon emissions. As such, Cebu Pacific has been striving for more environmentally friendly operations, and as such, they are preparing to launch their first commercial flight using SAF.

SAF is essentially a “drop-in” replacement for fossil fuels made from renewable resources. The use of SAF reduces carbon emissions by up to 85% over the SAF lifecycle. SAF’s chemical and physical properties are nearly identical to those of conventional jet fuel, and it can be safely mixed to varying degrees with regular jet fuel. SAF requires no modifications to the aircraft or engines and has no negative impact on performance or maintenance.

First commercial flight using SAF

Cebu Pacific will be the first airline in the Philippines to use SAF on a commercial flight, marking yet another milestone. This will begin on September 28 with flight 5J 814 from Singapore to Manila, using an Airbus A321neo.

Cebu Pacific, on the other hand, is not using SAF for the first time. They used sustainable fuel during the delivery flights of two of their aircraft, RP-C3902, an Airbus A330-900neo, and RP-C4131, an Airbus A320neo.

Cebu Pacific intends to operate in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly manner in the coming years. The airline plans to operate an all-Airbus NEO fleet of sixteen A330neo, 32 A321neo, and 21 A320neo by 2027. They hope to use SAF across their entire fleet by 2030.
