Scoot Introduces New E190-E2 Jets

Scoot took delivery of its first E190-E2 jet last April 11. The handover event took place at the Embraer facility in São José dos Campos, Brazil, at the Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf Airport. This jet, registered as PR-EEW, is the first of nine regional jets that Scoot anticipates incorporating into its fleet by the end of 2025.

Post-ceremony, the new aircraft embarked on its journey to Singapore, with stops in Gran Canaria, Athens, Baku Heydar Aliev International, Hyderabad International, and Phuket. It touched down at its new base on April 15. Scoot has scheduled this aircraft to begin revenue flights starting May 7, initially serving the Singapore to Krabi and Singapore to Hat Yai routes.

This addition is especially notable as Scoot becomes the first carrier based in Singapore to operate this aircraft model. The second E2 jet is expected to join the fleet later this month, further boosting the airline’s operational capabilities.

Network Expansion and Fleet Utilization

Leslie Thng, CEO of Scoot, highlighted the role of the new jets in the airline’s strategy during the handover ceremony. He mentioned, “The E190-E2 jets are important to our overall network growth strategy.” He elaborated on the significance of the new aircraft in meeting the growing demand for air travel and Scoot’s commitment to broadening its reach to more destinations.

In 2023, Scoot entered into a leasing agreement with Azorra Aviation for these nine aircraft, aiming to enhance service flexibility and expand regional connectivity. These jets will not only service existing routes to Krabi and Hat Yai but are also slated to assume some or all frequencies on the Singapore to Kuantan and Singapore to Miri routes. Furthermore, Scoot plans to initiate new services to Koh Samui and Sibu, targeting improved access to non-metro airports across Southeast Asia.

The introduction of the E190-E2 jets represents a key development in Scoot’s strategy to enhance its regional flight offerings and optimize its route network. These aircraft are well-suited for the targeted expansion due to their advanced technology and efficiency, which are ideal for the geographical and operational demands of the routes Scoot serves.
