Emirates Group has announced a series of salary increases and additional benefits for its employees. In an email sent out to staff on June 28, 2024, the company detailed a four percent increase in basic salary, transport allowance, and UAE national retention allowance. This announcement follows a record-breaking financial performance, which saw the group award its employees a bonus worth 20 weeks of their salary.
Breakdown of Salary Increases
The salary increase will also apply to the flight deck and cabin crew, who will receive a four percent increase in flying and productivity pay. Furthermore, all employees will enjoy a 10-15% increase in housing allowance, depending on their grade within the company. The new basic salary and fixed allowances will be detailed in a contractual adjustment letter to be distributed on July 22, 2024.
However, the salary increments will not apply to employees who are on a final warning, subject to disciplinary proceedings that may lead to dismissal, have not completed probation by July 1, 2024, or are serving notice.
In addition to the salary hikes, Emirates Group is enhancing other employee benefits. Paid maternity leave will increase from 60 days to 90 days, while paternity leave will extend from five days to 10 days. New mothers will also benefit from two hours of nursing breaks, up from the previous one hour.
Employees in grades 1 to 5 will no longer need to contribute to their life insurance premiums, as the company will cover these costs. Starting September 1, 2024, long-term sick leave benefits will be enhanced for employees of certain grades. Additionally, the education support allowance will increase by 10 percent from September.
Recruitment and Expansion Plans
Emirates Group has ramped up its recruitment efforts, seeking to hire more pilots, flight attendants, and engineers. Earlier this year, the group announced plans to recruit 5,000 cabin crew members in 2024.
In an interview with Khaleej Times, John Walker, VP of Base Maintenance at EK Engineering, revealed plans for the group’s engineering facility to move to a new location at Dubai Al Maktoum Airport by late 2027 or early 2028. The new facility will be double the size of the current one, increasing the number of engineers from 3,000 to more than 5,000.
