AirAsia reopens its Cebu hub with more flights from the Visayas

Before the pandemic took its toll, AirAsia Philippines operated flights from hubs outside Metro Manila, such as Cebu and Kalibo. Now that the aviation industry is making a solid recovery, AirAsia Philippines has reopened its Cebu hub.

They will launch flights from Cebu to international and domestic destinations such as Caticlan (Boracay), Davao, Cagayan De Oro, Puerto Princesa, Seoul (Incheon) and Kuala Lumpur.

Beginning 16 August 2022, passengers departing via Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2 can fly to Boracay  7x weekly  via Z2 550, 4x weekly to Cagayan De Oro via Z2 512, 4x weekly  to Davao via Z2 521, and 3x weekly  to Incheon.  The 4x weekly flight to Puerto Princesa will begin on September 2, while the 3x weekly flight to Kuala Lumpur will commence on September 21.

The need to decongest Manila airport

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is again congested. As such, reopening a second hub in Cebu will help decongest NAIA. AirAsia Philippines passengers from the Visayas region no longer need to fly to Manila to get a flight to those destinations. Instead, they can fly directly from Cebu to major select international and domestic destinations.

Reopening the Cebu hub of AirAsia Philippines will also flourish trade and cargo movement between the Visayas and Mindanao region. According to Ricky Isla, AirAsia Philippines CEO, “The reopening of our Cebu hub signifies AirAsia’s commitment to improving connectivity and providing best options among guests not only for flights but also with our partner hotels, tour providers and merchants, all present in our digital, travel and lifestyle platform -AirAsia Super App.”

So to all from the Visayas and Mindanao region, you now have more options if you want to fly around. No need to travel to Manila. AirAsia Philippines is indeed adding a more robust network from the region.
