Yesterday, December 1, marked a significant milestone for 19 people who once aspired to be flight attendants. After a month of intense cabin crew training, these 19 aspirants were named the newest cabin crew batch of CebGo. People from all walks of life and backgrounds with one common goal: to become flight attendants. That day arrived. They did make it!
Like you, they were once aspirants with a single goal: to be a part of Cebu Pacific. CebGo batch 16 consists of both former and new cabin crew. Some had prior flying experience, while others did not. The batch was brought together by a common goal: to work as cabin crew for Cebu Pacific / CebGo. CebGo, for your information, is Cebu Pacific’s interisland subsidiary. They fly with ATR 72-600 turboprops.
Many of Cebu Pacific’s destinations are still inaccessible to Airbus jets. CebGo also has bases in Cebu, Clark, Iloilo, and Davao, in addition to Manila. Instead of going through Metro Manila, passengers in the VisMin area can travel directly to other parts of the region.
A very warm welcome
When I arrived at the Cebu Pacific office to attend their graduation, the smiles of CebGo cabin crew batch 16 were simply beaming. You can see the joy on their faces. What person wouldn’t be? I mean, after a month of sleepless nights memorizing and comprehending a manual of over 500 pages with tests every day, a passing mark of 90% with only two “lifelines,” plus the emergency procedure drills.
Throughout the training, many of them burst into tears. Many of these CebGo batch 16 cabin crew trainees were left wondering, “What did I get myself into?” However, it was their motivation to become flight attendants that kept them going. The entire group persevered despite the difficulties of earning their wings.
According to their batch President Bhejho, the entire batch worked as a team, encouraging one another during challenges. They would also assist those who have used-up a lifeline. This is why cabin crew batches are so tightly knit. They’re like a small family, with their trainers serving as “parents.” MJ and Fontz in this case.
Being a team player is essential for becoming a cabin crew member. Once inside the cabin, you’re all in it together. Everything must be well coordinated so that service is not dispersed. Coordination is critical during emergency procedures to ensure a smooth and safe evacuation in less than 90 seconds.
This is why cabin crew training teaches you how to work well with others. You have one common goal to achieve despite your diverse personalities and backgrounds. Everyone is in this together.
Priceless smiles
As each of these CebGo batch 16 cabin crew members received their wings, they began flashing their priceless smiles. It was as if they were saying, “Finally, I am now a flight attendant!” It all came down to this day when each of the graduates received their wings.
There was a group hug at the end of the graduation! They succeeded despite all of their struggles and challenges in making their cabin crew dream a reality. The journey was never easy for any of them, but their efforts, sleepless nights, and tears were all worthwhile.
However, this is only the beginning of their dreams. CebGo cabin crew batch 16 will take their first productive flight a few days after graduation, and it will be a whole new ballgame. They may encounter situations that they were never exposed to during training. They will also come across various passenger personalities. Nobody is the same; we all have unique personalities.
To make it as a cabin crew member, you must have the right attitude and character. I believe Cebu Pacific’s training has prepared CebGo batch 16 to face any situation and carry out their duties of ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of their passengers or guests.
It is okay to cry, but it is not okay to give-up
They cried not only at their graduation, but also during their training. Some of them even sobbed as they attempted to join the cabin crew. They refused to give up. Between all tears were strong people who refused to give up until they achieved their ultimate goal.
This is why I continue to encourage all aspiring cabin crew members not to give up on their dreams. It is not a race to see who can become a flight attendant first; it is simply about getting their. Continue to work toward your goal of becoming a flight attendant. You may face difficulties, but remember that the discomfort is only temporary. A legacy lasts forever.
These 19 CebGo cabin crew members had the same dreams as you, and here they are. If they did it, you might be able to as well. Continue to put in the effort and make progress. Progress is progress, regardless of how small or large it is.
My message to CebGo cabin crew batch 16
You’ve come this far! I now strongly advise you to always give your best effort. The right attitude and a lot of initiative are essential. Soar high while remaining grounded. Treat your airline with dignity and respect. Remember that they hired and took time to train you not because of your experience, but because they believe in your abilities and capabilities.
Stay as long as possible with CebGo and try to build a career there. Make an effort to leave a legacy. If you decide to change airlines in the future, Cebu Pacific is likely to make a good recommendation.
