If there’s one thing I could recommend to our airline’s future flight attendants, it would be to look up to the current cabin crew. Why so? In choosing a “idol,” I highly recommend selecting a present or past member of the cabin crew because they are the kind of people you aspire to be like. You might feel inspired to follow in the footsteps of your favorite flight attendant as a role model to help you in your goals.
The current cabin crew should serve as a role model. You look up to them, so you might try to emulate their success or at least seek advice from them. Someone I’ve already featured, a former member of cabin crew, a cousin of yours who worked in the airline industry, or a YouTuber who used to work in the airline industry.
Flight attendants are more than happy to lend a helping hand
Most current flight attendants are more than happy to share their knowledge and experience with aspiring cabin crew members like yourself, and the best way to show your appreciation is to actually take the advice they provide you. Naturally, you won’t always be able to pull off their style, but there are bound to be valuable insights you can glean from their tale and their path toward their dream.
Your flight attendant role model will serve as your greatest inspiration.
Only one? Yes, you can have as many cabin crew role models as you like! It’s preferable if there are a large number of them, since they can all work together to accomplish the same end result. I always include photos of the current cabin crew, who come from many diverse backgrounds and have many interesting tales to tell. I do this in part to serve as an example to you, our future cabin crew.
Here are a few suggestions for how to select a flight attendant role model.
- Pick a member of the cabin crew, either current or formerly, whose work you like because you want to replicate it.
- Choose a flight attendant role model that will lift you up instead than bring you down. Avoid being negative.
- Pick the one that best exemplifies what it means to be a flight attendant.
- Stay away from those who are negative and quick to place blame. Pick someone who is resilient enough to try again after failing. Not just trying again and over will do it.
- Choose someone with a good record or someone who is leaving a good legacy with their airline. Please avoid those with AWOL records as much as possible.
Never forget that the flight attendant role model who inspires you the most will also shape your habits, outlook, and decisions. The current and previous members of our cabin crew who have achieved great success should be role models for you.
