It’s likely that January 1, 2023 was a highly hectic day for Philippine aviation. Fortunately, there was some positive news, or a fresh start, that day. The first day of 2023 saw the arrival of Cebu Pacific’s ninth Airbus A320neo.
New from Hamburg, RP-C4134 is an Airbus A320-271N. Prior to its delivery to Cebu Pacific, the plane was given the serial number 11143 during the production process. It left Hamburg on December 31st, 2022.
The airline will receive a total of eleven new planes this year. In addition to the recently delivered RP-C4134, four A330neos, four A321neos, and two more A320neos are scheduled for delivery.
Difference between the A320ceo and A320neo
The engines of the Cebu Pacific A320ceos and the later A320neos are the most noticeable difference between the two generations. CFM56 turbofan engines power the A320ceo (Current Engine Option), whereas Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines power the A320neo.
The A320neo’s increased maximum takeoff weight allows it to transport an extra 8 passengers in comparison to its forerunner. Additionally, the A320neo’s upgraded geared-turbofan engines increase its fuel efficiency by 15% to 20% compared to the A320ceo.
The A320ceo can fly 5,700 to 6,200 kilometers, but the A320neo can fly 6,300.
Though the absolute differences between the two are quite small, they are critically important to Cebu Pacific.
Cebu Pacific has an outstanding order of 12 A320neos.
