Knowing your “why” is important in becoming a flight attendant

Why do you want to be a flight attendant? Knowing your “why” is important in becoming a flight attendant because it will give you a greater sense of purpose. This will help you not only become a flight attendant but a better flight attendant as well. When you face challenges, going back to your “why” will give you the strength to push on. Your “why” will always remind you why you are willing to endure all the challenges even to become a cabin crew.

Knowing your “why” will give you a more clear direction

To know and understand your “why” will indeed give you more motivation, more direction, and purpose in pursuing a cabin crew career. In times when you face challenges and hardships, going back to your “why” will give you more strength to get up and go on. Now our question to you is, why do you want to be a flight attendant?

You may all have plenty of reasons but allow me to share my insights.

The main purpose of becoming a flight attendant

It is very important first to understand the main purpose of cabin crew members inside an aircraft. As said numerous times in the past, the primary duty of flight attendants is to ensure the safety and security of the passengers on board. The secondary duty is to make sure the needs of passengers are well attended to and that they are made comfortable during the duration of the flight. That’s it. It is never in a flight attendant’s job description to travel the world, that is merely a benefit of fulfilling your primary and secondary duties as a cabin crew.

Now that you know, when you think about your “why” and to define it well, think first about the job description above. In other words, you have to be clear as to why you want to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers on board. Having a strong “why” will have a domino effect on why you want to endure the long lines, why you want to go through the grueling training, etc. Knowing very well why you want to be a flight attendant will set your foundation, and all will begin from there. Knowing your “why” will also define whether you are fit to be a cabin crew or not.

Your “why” will make you a better flight attendant

Many flight attendants start with a “dream job” as their “why.” However as time goes by, they realize that their “why” is more than just making a childhood dream come true, it is about serving others. Seeing each passenger arrive at their destination safely is fulfillment for every cabin crew. Ensuring the passengers’ safety, comfort, and a memorable travel experience becomes a flight attendant’s main why, and there is just so much sense of fulfillment if these are achieved. Such feeling pushes flight attendants to be better after every flight.
