Saudia, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), has recently announced the addition of four new routes to its international network as part of its 2023 expansion program. These are Beijing, China; Birmingham, UK; Kano, Nigeria; and Johannesburg, South Africa. The airline has teamed up with the Saudi Air Connectivity Program (ACP) and the Saudi Tourism Authority to improve air connectivity and boost economic growth within the KSA.
Prior to September 2019, the KSA did not permit foreign visitors to enter for recreational purposes. But with the introduction of the Saudi ACP, the country aims to become a primary destination for international travel, unlocking its rich cultural heritage and inviting travelers from around the world to experience the beauty and diversity of the country.
The Importance of Connectivity
Ali Rajab, CEO of ACP, emphasized the significance of air connectivity in enabling tourism growth and creating new opportunities for businesses and tourists alike. He stated, “Air connectivity will play an increasingly important role in enabling tourism growth and creating new opportunities for businesses and tourists alike. We look forward to building on this momentum to unlock new destinations, and create a brighter future for the Kingdom”.
Ibrahim Koshy, CEO of Saudia, expressed the airline’s dedication to investing in operational growth to meet current and future expansion requirements. The airline plans to increase its number of destinations to 200 by 2025 as part of its Vision 2030 reform program. This program aims to expand the airline’s global market presence, streamline and simplify the travel experience, and improve the overall travel experience for its guests.
Destination Globally
Saudia currently offers flights to more than 90 international destinations, including cities in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Its main hub is King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and its base of operations is Jeddah International Airport.
In addition to the expansion of its international network, Saudia is also focusing on improving its domestic network and increasing the number of routes served by its regional subsidiary, Flyadeal. The airline operates a fleet of more than 100 aircraft, including the A320, A330, A340, B777, and B787, and is a member of the SkyTeam alliance.
Through the Saudi ACP and its partnership with Saudia, the KSA is striving to become a top destination for international travel, providing greater access to target international markets, and boosting economic growth within the country. With air connectivity playing a crucial role in achieving this objective, Saudia is committed to enhancing its operational growth and providing an exceptional travel experience to its guests.
