American Airlines Rejoins the Los Angeles – Auckland Market

American Airlines is set to re-enter the competitive Los Angeles – Auckland flight market by resuming daily service starting December 21. The airline will operate Boeing 787-9s on this route, reestablishing its presence in a market that is about to get more crowded.

Pre-Pandemic Competition and Current Market

Before the pandemic, American Airlines offered nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Auckland, competing with Air New Zealand’s 2X-daily service. Currently, Air New Zealand is the sole operator of this route, having resumed daily service. According to OAG, no other airline currently operates nonstop flights between the two cities.

Upcoming Competition in the Winter 2023/24 Season

The Los Angeles-Auckland market is expected to become increasingly crowded, as both Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have announced their intentions to enter the market at the beginning of the winter 2023/24 season. With American Airlines’ return to the market, passengers will have more options to choose from when flying between the two cities.

Expanding Flight Options for Travelers

The resumption of American Airlines’ daily service between Los Angeles and Auckland will provide travelers with more choices and flexibility for their travel plans. As more airlines enter the market, competition will likely drive improvements in service and potentially lower fares, benefiting passengers in the long run.
