Emirates Transitions to Mobile Boarding Passes

In a significant stride towards enhancing customer convenience and promoting digitally enabled travel experiences, Emirates has announced a major shift in its operations. Starting from May 15, the airline will require most of its Dubai-departing passengers to switch from printed paper boarding passes to mobile ones. This move underlines the airline’s commitment to providing seamless, efficient, and eco-friendly travel experiences.

The check-in process at Terminal 3 will see passengers receiving their mobile boarding passes either via email or SMS. Those who opt for online check-in can effortlessly load their boarding pass into their Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or access it via the user-friendly Emirates App. To further streamline the process, the checked-in baggage receipt will also be directly emailed to the passengers or made available in the Emirates App.

Digital Transformation for Sustainable Travel

This initiative aims to significantly reduce paper waste, aligning with global sustainability goals. In addition, it offers a convenient and quick digitized check-in experience for passengers departing from Dubai. The switch to mobile boarding passes also mitigates the risk of lost or misplaced boarding passes, lending passengers peace of mind while travelling.

From shopping at Dubai Duty Free to breezing through security checks and boarding the aircraft, the mobile boarding pass will serve as an all-access ticket throughout the travel journey. Airport staff and Emirates agents will merely need to scan the QR code on the mobile boarding pass as passengers navigate through the airport.

Retaining Flexibility for Specific Passenger Needs

Despite the digital shift, some passengers may still require a physical boarding pass. This includes those travelling with infants, unaccompanied minors, passengers requiring special assistance, passengers with onward flights on other airlines, and all passengers travelling on flights to the US.

For passengers who do not possess a mobile device or are unable to access their boarding information due to issues like battery drainage, system glitches, or lack of network connectivity, the option to print a boarding pass will remain available upon request at the check-in counters.

A Seamless Biometric Journey in Dubai

Registered passengers can now enjoy a seamless travel experience at Dubai International Airport, where they will be able to use the biometric machines or smart gates to navigate through various airport stations. The convenience of digitally enabled journeys is not just limited to check-ins and itinerary management. Passengers using the Emirates app can also access digital menus in advance and curate a playlist of their favorite entertainment options available on ice, syncing them as soon as they board to save time.
