AirAsia Wins World’s Best Low Cost Airline for the 14th Time

In an impressive streak of victories, AirAsia has once again clinched the title at the Skytrax’s World Best Airline Award this 2023. Making it their 14th consecutive win, AirAsia proudly carries home the esteemed World’s Best Low-Cost Airline of the Year honor from the World Airline Awards 2023.

AirAsia, a globally recognized airline for its quality and excellence, leads the pack again in the recently concluded Skytrax awards. With more than 325 airlines in the running, the award included the inputs from numerous travelers across 100 nationalities in an online survey. Counting in the results, the survey was taken from September 2022 to May 2023. It was during this period that AirAsia made a strong comeback, expanding its network to more than 130 destinations.

Surpassing Challenges and Embracing Growth

The notable recognition is a clear sign of AirAsia’s sturdy recovery, aggressive growth in passenger volume and route expansion, even amid the challenges posed by the global pandemic. Despite these hurdles, the airline stood firm in its commitment to innovation and providing exceptional service. Consequently, AirAsia holds its position as the top low-cost airline for travelers who desire value and choice.

Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, praised AirAsia, stating, “AirAsia is a survey passenger favorite and has shown remarkable consistency since the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline category was introduced to the awards program in 2010. The recognition from customers should be a great source of pride for the airline management and staff in what has been a difficult period as travel returns after the Covid pandemic.”

Expanding Fleet and Services

With 170 planes already serving various routes, AirAsia plans to reactivate all 204 planes by August this year. In addition to regaining 100% of its pre-pandemic capacity, the airline is also adding 19 new planes to its fleet this year, including four Frontier planes.

In line with this growth, AirAsia resumed its long-term aircraft orders, aiming to increase its fleet to a record-breaking 362 planes, the first of which will be delivered in 2024. The airline is also eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first of the three dedicated A321Fs freighters for its cargo and logistics business, Teleport, in July. This addition is set to enhance cross-border delivery services across the region.

Commitment to Customer Experience

AirAsia also pledges to advance customer experience with various AI enhancements for its chatbot AskBo. Additionally, the airline is steadily introducing its biometric facial recognition technology – FACES – on core domestic routes, promising a more efficient and seamless travel experience than ever before.

Fernandes concluded by saying, “People will always be the airline’s biggest asset. We are thrilled to confirm that all of our 22,000 Allstars who tirelessly strive to provide the best service and experience to millions of our guests, both on the ground and in the air are now back. This award is dedicated to Allstars and all 800 million guests and counting who have voted for AirAsia time and time again, for being a part of its incredible journey.”
