Air New Zealand Announces Search for New Uniform Designer

Air New Zealand Announces Search for New Uniform Designer

Air New Zealand is embarking on a journey to find a new uniform designer for its pilots, flight attendants, and ground staff. As the airline focuses on the future, it aims to update its uniforms to align with its vision and recently announced future cabin experience. Emphasizing sustainability and reflecting the diverse requirements of its employees, Air New Zealand is now accepting expressions of interest (EOI) for this exciting project.

A Future-Focused Design and Employee Engagement

According to Air New Zealand Chief Customer and Sales Officer Leanne Geraghty, the current uniforms have served the airline well for 12 years, but it’s time for a refresh. The new design should be future-focused, building on the current uniform’s popularity and ensuring it reflects the diversity of the airline’s staff. Geraghty highlighted the importance of the Air New Zealand uniform as a representation of the airline and the country, stating, “It’s important that we continue to ensure our uniform accurately reflects our business, our people, and our country.” Staff will provide wearer feedback throughout the design process, ensuring the new uniforms meet the needs of the teams.

As the airline updates its uniforms, it also presents an opportunity to review the sustainability of its workplace wardrobe. Air New Zealand Chief Sustainability Officer Kiri Hannifin emphasized the importance of supporting a circular economy and integrating new innovations, particularly around textile recycling. The fabrics used in the new uniforms must have reduced life cycle impacts, and the airline is researching end-of-life solutions for its existing uniforms to minimize waste to landfill.

Inclusivity and the Path Ahead

In addition to seeking a new uniform designer, Air New Zealand will also be revising its grooming standards as part of the update. The EOI for the uniform design is open to all New Zealand designers and will close on Sunday, May 14. Selected designers will then be invited to participate in a competitive pitch process. The airline plans to roll out the new uniforms in 2025.
