AirAsia Cambodia launched its domestic flight service last week, celebrating its first journey from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. The flight, KT102, achieved nearly full capacity as it departed Phnom Penh International Airport at 7:40 a.m. and arrived at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport at 8:30 a.m. local time. The airline’s Group CEO, Bo Lingam, and AirAsia Cambodia CEO, Vissoth Nam, along with AirAsia management and Allstars, attended the launch to send off passengers on this historic journey.
In addition to connecting Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, AirAsia Cambodia will soon link Siem Reap with Sihanoukville. These new routes demonstrate the airline’s commitment to enhancing domestic travel, offering Cambodians and tourists more affordable and convenient options. This network development supports AirAsia Cambodia’s goal of improving national connectivity.
CEO Vissoth Nam stated, “The launch of our first domestic flights today marks a new chapter in Cambodia’s tourism industry, where accessibility meets affordability. By offering valuable and reliable travel options, we empower Cambodians to explore their country and boost tourism and business opportunities.” Nam emphasized that the inaugural flight coincides with Cambodia’s “Visit Siem Reap 2024” campaign, designed to attract tourists to the province. “We are proud to be at the forefront of shaping Cambodia’s future, supporting government tourism initiatives with affordable travel options for all.”
Expanding Regional Connectivity
Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, highlighted the broader potential of the new routes: “We are honored to celebrate the launch of our seventh AirAsia airline. AirAsia Cambodia will connect travelers to over 130 destinations in Asia and beyond.” He pointed out that with AirAsia’s strong ASEAN presence, the airline is set to open up new regional exploration opportunities and contribute to Cambodia’s tourism and economy.
Currently, AirAsia operates 63 international flights weekly from its hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok to Cambodia. Domestically, the airline will serve Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville daily.
