AirAsia Philippines Waves Goodbye to Face Mask Requirement

AirAsia Philippines brings good news for domestic travelers: face masks are no longer mandatory on all domestic flights. The change in policy comes after the National Government’s decision to lift the state of public health emergency under Presidential Proclamation 297, a move supported by the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Department Order 2023-017.

However, passengers traveling internationally need to continue adhering to the health protocols of their destination countries. For passengers traveling to Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, the good news is that these destinations had already lifted the face mask requirement as early as the first quarter of 2023.

AirAsia’s Commitment to Safety

Despite relaxing the mask policy, AirAsia Philippines continues to prioritize the safety of its passengers. Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines Country Head for Communications and Public Affairs and Spokesperson, assured that deep cleaning and aircraft sanitation will continue after every flight. This is aimed at giving passengers peace of mind and confidence as air travel returns to a more normal state.

“Air travel is no place for complacency. We want our guests to feel secure when they fly with AirAsia. Although it is no longer a policy, guests, and crew may still opt to wear face masks whenever they deem necessary. We also want to reiterate that our aircraft are equipped with High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters which filter and block 99.97% of airborne particles including known bacteria and viruses,” Dailisan stated.

Additional Security Measures and Travel Promotions

Apart from the safety protocols, passengers need to be patient with additional security measures at the airport. Airport authorities now require passengers to remove their shoes during the final x-ray screening for enhanced security purposes. “AirAsia supports measures that enhance safety and security among all industry stakeholders. This additional layer of security screening acts as a deterrent to illegal activities and other threats, especially now that air travel is strongly rebounding,” Dailisan emphasized.

The travel period for this promotion runs from July 24 to September 30, 2023.

Reminders for AirAsia Guests

AirAsia Philippines reminds its guests to allow at least 3 hours for domestic and 4 hours for international travel. Passengers also need to note that NAIA Terminal 2 is now AirAsia’s new domestic terminal, while international flights continue from NAIA Terminal 3. AirAsia regularly updates and posts all travel advisories and information regarding flight schedules on the AirAsia travel safety website.
