AirAsia celebrated a major win at the 2024 World Travel Awards Asia and Oceania ceremony, held in Manila, by securing two prestigious accolades. The airline was recognized as Asia’s Leading Low-Cost Airline for the ninth year in a row and won Asia’s Leading Low-Cost Airline Cabin Crew for the eighth consecutive year. These honors were determined by votes from consumers, industry experts, and travel professionals, further cementing AirAsia’s dominance in the low-cost airline sector.
AirAsia has consistently outperformed its competitors in the low-cost airline category. “It’s very special to win voter’s choice awards,” said Bo Lingam, CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited. “The World Travel Awards winning streak tells us that we are doing the right things for our guests.” Since its founding, AirAsia has flown over 800 million passengers, a testament to its focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
The airline has expanded its operations sixfold since 2021 while maintaining a strong Net Promoter Score, which reflects high levels of customer satisfaction. Bo Lingam highlighted the company’s dedication to providing safe, affordable, and reliable air travel. He also emphasized that AirAsia is constantly enhancing its digital transformation initiatives, which are key to improving the overall guest experience.
AirAsia is not only focused on expanding its routes but also on sustainability. The airline aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2025. To accomplish this, AirAsia has implemented a leading fuel efficiency program and is investing in new, more eco-friendly aircraft. “We are excited about our major expansion plans, aiming to connect more continents while upholding our commitment to sustainability,” added Bo Lingam.
The airline has already committed to investing in over 300 new aircraft with lower carbon emissions to replace its current fleet by 2035. This move is expected to significantly reduce inflight waste and promote the use of environmentally friendly packaging.
Celebrating the Allstars
AirAsia’s success is built on the dedication of its 20,000-plus employees, known as “Allstars.” Lingam credited the hard work of this team for the airline’s continued recognition. “This award is a reflection of the hard work of our Allstars, who are at the heart of everything we do,” he said.
Ricky Isla, CEO of AirAsia Philippines, echoed this sentiment at the awards ceremony. “Our winning story is built on trust—trust in our vision, our team, and, most importantly, trust from our millions of guests. We are winning because people believe in what we do—providing the best service and travel experience in ASEAN and beyond.”
The World Travel Awards 2024 ceremony was held at the City of Dreams in Parañaque City, where Isla and AirAsia’s Head of Communications and Public Affairs, First Officer Steve Dailisan, accepted the awards on behalf of the company. The Allstar cabin crew, who are known for their exceptional service, played a crucial role in securing the votes that led to AirAsia’s continued success.
AirAsia’s success in the World Travel Awards 2024 is also driven by its competitive low-fare promotions, such as the P1SO Sale, also known as the AirAsia FREE SEATS in other countries, and the upcoming 9.9 LFG Sale. These promotions have attracted a large number of passengers, contributing to the airline’s ongoing recognition as a leader in low-cost air travel.
