Last July 20, 2023, the inaugural flight, OZ 7093, of Asiana Airlines, laden with 177 passengers, touched down at Bohol Panglao International Airport (BPIA) from Incheon, South Korea. This maiden voyage not only represents a new route for Asiana Airlines, but it also signifies the enhancement of international access for the province of Bohol.
Hailing the Inaugural Flight
A reception met the passengers alighting from the initial flight. The Acting Airport Manager of BPIA, Mr. Anghelo B. Ibañez, accompanied by airline executives and local media. This celebration heralded the solidification of Asiana Airlines’ foothold in Bohol and the expansion of the province’s international connectivity.
The Impact of Regular Flights
Beyond the inaugural flight, Asiana Airlines envisions a long-term plan to operate consistent flights to Bohol every Wednesday and Saturday. This move holds promise for the province, as it could potentially pave the way for more direct flights in the future. Moreover, regular flights would provide a significant boost to the local economy by drawing more tourists to the region and spurring business activities.
BPIA, in a Facebook post, recognized this impact, saying, “The continued increase in the number of flights in BPIA, particularly for international flights, signifies the increase in demand for passengers and tourists to come here in the province. This will eventually result in a boost in economic activities that will benefit us all.”
A Flourishing Route
Joining the ranks of three other carriers that fly the Bohol-Seoul route — Air Busan, Jeju Air, and Royal Air Philippines, Asiana Airlines emerges as a new player in this bustling route. It’s an exciting development for travelers and locals alike as they see a vibrant and internationally connected Bohol evolving before their eyes.
This venture of Asiana Airlines marks a new era for the province of Bohol, opening up new horizons for both local residents and foreign tourists. The skies above Bohol have become a bit busier, a sure sign of the province’s growing global significance and the burgeoning prospects for local economy.
