An unusual in-flight incident unfolded on an American Airlines flight when a passenger was arrested for allegedly urinating on another traveler. The altercation occurred aboard American Airlines Flight 292, taking off from John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).
During the 15-hour American Airlines flight, a heated argument broke out between two passengers. In a bizarre turn of events, one of the disputing individuals resorted to urinating on the other in an attempt to assert dominance in the in-flight disagreement.
The Aftermath: Arrest and Investigation
The American Airlines Boeing 777, registered as N720AN, landed safely at DEL shortly after 21:00 local time. As the plane arrived at the gate, airport police were on standby to escort the accused passenger off the aircraft. The intoxicated passenger was arrested after being removed from the in-flight scene.
Devesh Kumar Mahla, Deputy Commissioner of Airport Police at DEL, informed the public that the arrest was based on accusations from fellow passengers and cabin crew. However, law enforcement had not yet received conclusive evidence that the passenger had actually urinated on another. The Deputy Commissioner stated, “There was no corroborative evidence or complaint given by co-passengers regarding someone peeing on them.”
Praising the Cabin Crew’s Professionalism
Details on the legal proceedings remain scarce, but the alleged victim filed a formal complaint with American Airlines. A representative for the airline shared their thoughts on the in-flight incident and praised the cabin crew for their professionalism, saying, “American Airlines flight 292 with service from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) was met by local law enforcement upon arrival in DEL due to a disruption on board. We’re grateful to our crew members who are consistently dedicated to the safety and care of our customers and handled the circumstances with the utmost professionalism.”
It’s hard to imagine what goes through the minds of passengers during these in-flight altercations, but it’s reassuring to know that American Airlines’ cabin crew is prepared to handle any situation professionally.
