Cancelled flights due to the runway excursion incident in Cebu

A runway excursion occurred last night at the Mactan Cebu International Airport for a Korean Air Airbus A330 flight KE631 (CEB). As a result, flights to and from the airport have been cancelled while the aircraft is being pulled off the runway and cleared of any debris.

“The incident has necessitated the temporary closure of the MCIA runway to allow for the safe removal of the aircraft,” according to a statement on the Mactan Cebu Airport Facebook page. “For the time being, all international and domestic flights to and from MCIA are canceled until further notice.”

“We are working with Korean Air, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), and the Civil Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) for the swift resolution of this matter. Updates will immediately be given once available,” it said.

Below are the Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia Philippines flights that are affected by the incident.

AirAsia Philippines

cancelled flights

I encourage all affected passengers to exercise a little patience and understanding. A crippled aircraft at the end of the runway cannot just be pulled out immediately as though its as easy as towing a bus. Authorities also have to thoroughly inspect the whole length of the runway and taxiways for any debris that may cause any untoward incidents.

Please do not chastise your ground crew for flight cancellations. They are not to blame. Please, once again, exercise some patience and understanding.

Please do also check the official websites and social media pages of your respective airlines for new announcements and updates.
