Cebu Pacific continues to make progress in its sustainability efforts across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions. The airline’s recently released 2023 sustainability report, “Sustained Momentum,” highlights these achievements.
Cebu Pacific has taken important steps toward decarbonization, central to its environmental strategy. The airline has modernized its fleet with advanced, fuel-efficient New Engine Option (NEO) aircraft. As of now, 43% of its fleet consists of NEO aircraft, reducing carbon emissions by 161,000 tonnes. The airline aims to have an all-NEO fleet by 2028.
The airline has also implemented flight optimization and comprehensive fuel efficiency best practices, saving 16 million kilograms of jet fuel and further reducing carbon emissions by nearly 51,000 tonnes.
Cebu Pacific’s sustainability priorities include a strong focus on social responsibility. The airline invests in and empowers its employees, exemplified by the signing of a collective bargaining agreement with the Juan Wing Association of the Philippines, the airline’s cabin crew union. The airline also champions diversity, equity, and inclusion through its “IncluCEB Space” program, launched in 2023 to foster acceptance and empowerment among its workforce.
Governance and Recognitions
In terms of governance, Cebu Pacific has received significant recognition. The airline earned a 3-arrow golden recognition under the Golden Arrow Awards, identifying it as one of the top Philippine listed companies in corporate governance. Additionally, Cebu Pacific improved its ESG performance in both its S&P Global ESG score and MSCI ESG ratings.
The airline’s decarbonization initiatives were acknowledged with a gold rating by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation’s (CAPA) Global Airline Sustainability Benchmarking Report. Cebu Pacific was also recognized as the Most Sustainable Low-Cost Airline in the Philippines by the World Economic Magazine.
Cebu Pacific’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its continuous efforts to modernize its fleet, implement fuel-saving measures, and foster a diverse and inclusive workplace. The airline’s recognition in various sustainability awards underscores its role as a leader in sustainable aviation in the Philippines.
