Cebu Pacific Teams Up with Neste for Greener Skies

Cebu Pacific recently inked a memorandum of understanding with Neste, a global leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The partnership aims to explore the supply and purchase of SAF in the Asia-Pacific region.

A Fuel for the Future

SAF is not your regular jet fuel. It’s made from sustainable feedstocks and has the power to cut down carbon emissions from air travel by up to 80 percent over its life cycle. That’s a huge deal compared to conventional jet fuel. Alex Reyes, the Chief Strategy Officer of Cebu Pacific, emphasized the airline’s focus on SAF. He said, “Carbon emissions are a pressing concern in the aviation sector. Cebu Pacific has laid out initiatives to address our emissions footprint, with a primary focus on integrating SAF in its operations.”

In September 2022, the airline operated its first passenger flight using blended SAF from Singapore to Manila. This move made Cebu Pacific the first low-cost carrier in Southeast Asia and the first Philippine airline to use SAF in regular operations. And they’re not stopping there. The airline has another SAF-powered flight scheduled from Narita (Tokyo) to Manila on October 25, 2023.

Looking ahead, Cebu Pacific has set some ambitious goals. The airline plans to transition to an all-NEO fleet by 2028. Even more impressive, Cebu Pacific aims to use blended SAF across its entire commercial network by 2030.

Neste’s Support

Neste is fully on board with Cebu Pacific’s green mission. Sami Jauhiainen, the acting Executive Vice President of the Renewable Aviation business unit at Neste, expressed the company’s commitment. He stated, “Sustainable aviation fuel is a readily available solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from air travel. We look forward to building cooperation with Cebu Pacific in the future.”

Cebu Pacific is making serious moves to reduce its carbon footprint by partnering with Neste for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel. With milestones already achieved and ambitious plans for the future, the airline is committed to providing more sustainable travel options.
