Cebu Pacific will become an all-Airbus NEO operator by 2027

I just finished writing an article about Cebu Pacific’s previous fleet. It is now time to discuss their future fleet. Cebu Pacific’s path is clear, with the company aiming to operate an all-Airbus NEO fleet by 2027.

This means that Cebu Pacific will have the following aircraft in its fleet by 2027:

  • 16 Airbus A330-900neo
  • 21 Airbus A321neo
  • 10 Airbus A321XLR
  • 21 Airbus A320neo

If Cebu Pacific achieves this goal by 2027, the airline’s fleet will be four years old on average. This list does not include the ATR 72-600 turboprops owned by its subsidiary, CebGo.

The current fleet

Cebu Pacific is currently transitioning to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable fleet. They are deploying all of their NEO aircraft to replace the fleet’s older generation Airbus planes. Cebu Pacific currently operates a fleet of:

  • 21 A320-200
  • 7 A321-200
  • 8 A320neo
  • 10 A321neo
  • 4 A330-300
  • 3 A330-900neo

“Maintaining a very modern and cost-effective fleet is still central to our business model.

“We still intend to transition to an all-Airbus neo fleet by 2027,” said Mark Cezar, the airline’s chief financial officer.

A more eco-friendly and sustainable fleet

Cebu Pacific plans to become the greenest and most eco-friendly airline in the Philippines by transitioning to an all-NEO fleet by 2027. NEO is an abbreviation for New Engine Option. This means that by 2027, Cebu Pacific’s fleet will only be powered by two engines: the Rolls Royce Trent 7000, which powers the A330-900neo, and the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G, which powers the A321neo and A320neo.

These engines consume 10% to 20% less fuel than predecessors such as the CFM56 and RR Trent 700 found on the A330-300.

These engines can run on SAF, or Sustainable Aviation Fuel, which cuts carbon emissions by more than 40%. This was tested during the delivery of two Cebu Pacific planes, an A330-900neo and an A320neo. Cebu Pacific will fly its first commercial flight with SAF from Singapore to Manila on September 24th, using an Airbus A321neo.

Will Cebu Pacific add more frames to their list

Going ultra-long distances, such as direct flights to the United States mainland, is not currently on their priority list. Cebu Pacific’s ambition is to exploit the Filipino market in the region, the Middle East, and Australia. As a result, it is unclear whether Cebu Pacific will consider purchasing an Airbus A350 in the future. For the time being, they would prefer to operate efficiently with a leaner fleet of only three frame types.

To be clear, the main purpose of the A330neo is not to fly to further destinations, but to allow the airline to increase capacity in congested and slot-constrained airports throughout the region. Their 459-seat configuration is ideal for Cebu Pacific’s regional and medium-distance flights.
