Cebu Pacific’s third A330neo made use of SAF during its delivery

Cebu Pacific is indeed more than a low cost carrier. Sometimes, you feel that they are an advanced and highly technological airline guised as a low cost carrier. They always think ahead of the game. Another milestone for this airline just happened a few days ago. Cebu Pacific’s third A330neo which was delivered just last week, made use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) during its flight from Toulouse to Manila!

Flight 5J3902, utilizing an A330-941neo with registry RP-C3902, arrived in Manila at around 8:53am local time, May 20!

This makes Cebu Pacific the very first low cost airline in Asia, and absolutely the first airline in the Philippines to make use of SAF!

So what exactly is SAF?

SAF is a “drop-in” replacement for fossil fuels, produced from renewable resources. The use of SAF results in an up to 85% reduction in carbon emissions across the SAF lifecycle. The chemical and physical characteristics of SAF are almost identical to those of conventional jet fuel and these can be safely mixed with regular jet fuel to varying degrees. SAF does not require any adaptations to the aircraft or engines, and does not have any negative impact on performance or maintenance.

This will make Cebu Pacific a more environment friendly airline in the next coming years!

Always forward thinking

If there is one thing about Cebu Pacific, they are always forward thinking. Knowing that our natural resources are slowly depleting and that the environment has been suffering from all the pollution, they have embarked on a move to be an eco-friendly and sustainable airline in the future. These include a fleet of an all-Airbus NEO jets by 2027 and the use of SAF across all its fleet by 2030. Such move will allow Cebu Pacific to align with the global aviation industry’s goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Another move they are doing now is to go “paperless”, making use of technology to reduce the use of paper across its operations.

Proper long-term planning, forward thinking, and adaptable to change. These are what propel Cebu Pacific to be a leading airline in the Philippines. They were also the only airline in the Philippines that was accepting delivery of new aircraft in the middle of the pandemic lockdowns.

I am also happy that I myself was able to fly on Cebu Pacific’s A330neo last March! I’ll have a separate entry about that soon!
