Starting this fall, Delta Airlines will introduce Delta Premium Select (DPS) on its transcontinental flights between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX). This marks the first time Delta brings this popular product to domestic U.S. routes, aiming to offer customers enhanced dining and additional room to stretch out. The service will commence on September 10, with four of Delta’s 11 peak-day flights between LAX and JFK on a Boeing 767 widebody aircraft equipped with four product experiences: Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin. Delta plans to expand DPS to more daily JFK-LAX flights later this year.
Maurico Parise, Vice President of Brand Experience Design, stated, “Delta Premium Select will bring a new level of comfort, luxury, and practicality to one of Delta’s most important routes in the domestic U.S. as we continue to work to deliver more premium experiences to our customers.” This product, which debuted in 2017, has been successful on international routes, particularly following recent onboard investments. Customers flying between New York and Los Angeles will now enjoy a more spacious seat and a premium experience.
Features of Delta Premium Select
Delta Premium Select offers travelers more space with a wider seat, additional recline, and adjustable footrest and leg rest. The cabin also features premium amenities, including a memory-foam pillow, noise-canceling headsets, and a plush blanket made from recycled materials. Customers can enjoy a premium amenity kit from Someone Somewhere, featuring thoughtful travel essentials.
Before boarding, DPS customers can pre-select their desired first service entrée. This fall, those traveling from JFK to LAX may choose curated menu options from Union Square Events, such as braised turkey meatballs with arrabbiata sauce, mashed potatoes, and sautéed kale, or a summer vegetable lasagna with parmesan cream sauce and cherry tomatoes. Breakfast items include a French onion frittata with gruyere breadcrumbs, Canadian bacon, and roasted cherry tomatoes, or croissant monkey bread with peach raspberry compote.
For flights from LAX to JFK, DPS customers can pre-select options from Jon & Vinny’s, including mustard marinated chicken thigh with mashed potatoes, kale, and roasted tomatoes, or baked rigatoni with broccoli and bechamel sauce topped with parmesan. Breakfast options on eastbound flights include cheddar scrambled eggs with chicken date sausage, potatoes, red peppers, and onions, or Greek yogurt with tropical granola.
Premium Services and Amenities
At the airport, Delta Premium Select customers receive Sky Priority® service, which includes dedicated check-in and baggage service. Once it’s time to board, DPS customers have priority boarding in Zone 2. In-flight, customers will be treated to a hot towel service followed by an elevated dining experience with main courses served on plates with linen tableware and napkins, silver flatware, and glassware. A premium snack basket will be available throughout the flight, and chocolates will be served before arrival to deliver a fond farewell.
Delta’s expansion of DPS to U.S. transcontinental flights is part of a decade-long investment in New York and Los Angeles, both in the air and on the ground. Delta aims to offer fast, free Wi-Fi presented by T-Mobile on its entire global fleet, ensuring reliable, streaming-quality connectivity on all flights between these two hubs by the end of September.
