Which airlines still operate the Boeing 757

The Boeing 757 is a narrow-body, long-range aircraft designed to bridge the gap between the 737 and the twin-aisle 757. It went into production in 1981 and ended in 2004. Despite the fact that it is no longer in production, many airlines continue to use the Boeing 757. It is now time to look at which commercial airlines still use the Boeing 757 today.

The 757 was Boeing’s replacement for the 727, which had been a huge success and was still a mainstay of many airline fleets around the world. Boeing’s initial concept in the mid-1970s was to either create an updated 727, the 727-300, or a completely new twin-engined design known as the 7N7. United Airlines expressed interest in the 727-300 and provided input. However, this quickly faded as airlines became more interested in the new high by-pass turbofan engines, which would not fit the 727 tri-jet.

Cebu Pacific was the lone 757 operator in the Philippines

Way back 2001, Cebu Pacific acquired three used Boeing 757-200s in order to launch international flights within the region. RP-C2715 was the first to join the Cebu Pacific fleet in 2001, followed by RP-C2714 and RP-C2716. These planes were retired in 2006, and the Airbus A320 took their place.

Delta is the 757’s largest operator today, with 111 B757-200s and 16 B757-300s. United Airlines comes in second with 40 B757-200s and 21 B757-300s.

Currently, no aircraft manufacturer has produced a plane with the same capacity and range as the B757. While the Airbus A321XLR can fly farther, it lacks the 757-300’s maximum capacity. At the same time, Boeing has confirmed that no new aircraft will be produced within the next decade. The proposed B797, also known as the NMA or New Midsized Aircraft, has yet to enter the pre-production phase, and there has been no confirmation from Boeing about this aircraft.

The Boeing 757 is a one-of-a-kind aircraft in its class, and it’s time to find out who still uses the 757 for commercial passenger flights. Customers have received 914 757-200, 80 757-200PF, and 55 757-300 aircraft.
